Top Off Your TBR: November 2018 Edition

This month, we're talking about six books we can't wait to sink our reading teeth into. And only two of them are Christmas-adjacent!

Worst Holiday Ever Romance Anthology CoverWorst Holiday Ever, A Horrible Holiday Romance Anthology
 - Nov. 15

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! OK—scratch that. It’s time for another obligatory family gathering. And nothing spices up the egg nog like bringing your partner home. Surely your belligerent brother-in law, your gimlet-eyed granny and your drunken uncle will keep it classy. With forced proximity and alcoholic beverages, what could possibly go wrong?

Suzanne - My brother is getting divorced, I haven't spoken to my sister in over a year, and my parents don't talk their siblings. After reading so much saccharine holiday romance,  sometimes I want to read about OTHER people's horrible families. :D

Cover of Therese Beharrie's contemporary romance, A Wedding One ChristmasA Wedding One Christmas, by Therese Beharrie - Nov. 19

Of all the weddings in all the world, Angie Roux had to be mistaken for a bridesmaid in this one.
Caledon, South Africa, is supposed to be just a stop on the way to Christmas in Cape Town, part of Angie’s long-avoided homecoming. She never expected to star in a bizarre comedy of errors, but here she is: convincing a handsome stranger to be her fake boyfriend for the day.
Ezra Johnson, the handsome stranger in question, turns out to be a pleasant distraction from both the wedding and thoughts of her first family Christmas without her father. And he seems to loathe weddings just as much as she does.

Suzanne Therese writes happy books, and she has TWO out this November. I picked this one because it's her first with Carina and because I looove that cover. Also, this blurb is ridiculous and I can't wait to dig in.

Cover of contemporary Romance Tikka Chance on Me, by Suleikha SnyderTikka Chance on Me, by Suleikha Snyder - Nov. 13

He's the bad-boy biker. She's the good girl working in her family's Indian restaurant. On the surface, nothing about Trucker Carrigan and Pinky Grover's instant, incendiary, attraction makes sense. But when they peel away the layers and the assumptions--and their clothes--everything falls into place. The need. The want. The light. The laughter. They have more in common than they ever could've guessed. Is it enough? They won't know until they take a chance on each other--and on love.

Suzanne - Opposites attract, lots of food, and Snyder's crackling sexual tension? Yes, please.

Cover of Best of Luck by Kate Clayborn Best of Luck, by Kate Clayborn - Nov. 27

Winning the lottery is the biggest ticket to freedom Greer Hawthorne’s ever had.
Until her best friend’s brother comes to town . . .
Greer Hawthorne’s winning lottery ticket doesn’t just bring her wealth, it also means her chance at a long-postponed education. She’s finally on the cusp of proving to her big, overprotective family that she’s independent—until a careless mistake jeopardizes her plan to graduate. Lucky for her, there’s someone in town who may be able to help . . .
Alex Averin plans to show up for his sister’s wedding, then quickly get back to his job as a world-renowned photojournalist. But when gorgeous, good-hearted Greer needs an assist with a photography project, he’s powerless to say no. Showing Greer his professional passion ignites a new one, and rouses instincts in Alex he thought he’d long set aside.
Can a ceaseless wanderer find a stopping place alongside a woman determined to set out on her own . . . or are Alex and Greer both pushing their luck too far?

Suzanne - I'll admit, I'm going to wait for audio on this one, but I'm so excited for all of you who have the fortitude to read with your eyeballs! Anyway, Greer is adorable and Alex (Kit's brother) is a wandering soul. I really want to find out how they're going to make this work.

Cover of Lies, Love, and Breakfast at Tiffany'sLies, Love and Breakfast at Tiffany's, by Julie Wright - Nov. 6

The Lie

Women in Hollywood are just pretty faces. But Silvia Bradshaw knows that’s a lie, and she’s ready to be treated as an equal and prove her worth as one of Hollywood’s newest film editors.
The Love
She and Ben Mason had worked together as editors before Silvia got her big break, so he’s the perfect person to ask for feedback on her first major film. But even as their friendship begins to blossom into something more, a lawsuit surfaces, jeopardizing both Ben and Silvia’s jobs—as well as their fledgling romance. Audrey Hepburn once said: “The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it’s all that matters.” Silvia agrees. Or she used to. It’s one thing to risk her job and her heart, but can she really risk Ben’s, too? Does she have the right to make decisions for her own happiness when they affect so many other people?
The Breakfast
With everything to lose, Silvia meets Ben for breakfast at his favorite diner, Tiffany’s, for one last conversation before the credits roll on true love.

Amy - I love books about the movie making process, and the friends to lovers trope, and this book has BOTH! It has more of a rom-com vibe, which I think will come in handy during a predictably stressful Thanksgiving holiday.

Cover of Girls of Paper and FireGirls of Paper and Fire, by Natasha Ngan - Nov. 6

Each year, eight beautiful girls are chosen as Paper Girls to serve the king. It's the highest honor they could hope for...and the most demeaning. This year, there's a ninth. And instead of paper, she's made of fire.
In this richly developed fantasy, Lei is a member of the Paper caste, the lowest and most persecuted class of people in Ikhara. She lives in a remote village with her father, where the decade-old trauma of watching her mother snatched by royal guards for an unknown fate still haunts her. Now, the guards are back and this time it's Lei they're after — the girl with the golden eyes whose rumored beauty has piqued the king's interest.
Over weeks of training in the opulent but oppressive palace, Lei and eight other girls learns the skills and charm that befit a king's consort. There, she does the unthinkable — she falls in love. Her forbidden romance becomes enmeshed with an explosive plot that threatens her world's entire way of life. Lei, still the wide-eyed country girl at heart, must decide how far she's willing to go for justice and revenge.

Suzanne - F/f romance and the early reviews had me pre-ordering this months ago. And look at that cover. *dies*
