This review originally ran at Heroes & Heartbreakers in January of 2017. It applies to the 2014 Edition, but the original, published in 2012, is linked in the entry below. In 2016, the first themed volume, My Monster Boyfriend, was released, and a 2018 volume is in the works right now. I hear there will be robots. ;)

It's apparently that time, the end of the arbitrary calendar year, a time when we dig through our last year of reading and try to pick our favorites. Since this blog started in late spring, I've reviewed a bunch of queer/romance comics. Here are my Top 5, in no particular order. If you don't agree with me, please feel free to fight it out in the comments!

Changes on the Way...

Dearest Lovers of Comics and Romance,

The site I reviewed/blogged for, Heroes & Heartbreakers, is shutting down the website in a few days. I've spent a couple of days now being super-bummed. In a year that's been and continues to be awful in so many ways, this was not welcome or expected news.

Why am I telling you? Because I (Suzanne) happen to be a stubborn, intractable woman and I refuse to give up an outlet that brought me joy and solace fo

r the last two years. I'm expanding the scope of this site to encompass romance in media outside sequential art/comics.

The current plan is to make a second blog for that content, which will allow readers/subscribers to sign up for one or both feeds. If you're currently here for the comics and don't want anything else? Your email and site experience shouldn't change, other than a modified landing page and navigation. The Twitter and Facebook feeds will host all of our content, but y'all can scroll on by the things you're not interested in.

If you have any questions or concerns, I'm on Twitter far too much (@cerestheories) and always available by email (suzanne@loveinpanels.com).

I look forward to building this community with you.

Suzanne

Destiny, NY

We read the first volume of DESTINY, NY and it was really fun! Two magical girls falling in love and saving the world? Heck, yes.

This is going to be a bit of a Squee - you have been warned.

I first heard of DESTINY, NY when I was scrolling through Kickstarter and decided to back Vol. 2. Magical girls in love? Sign. Me. Up.

Fast forward a bit, and I've got a digital copy of DESTINY, NY (Vol. 1) waiting for me on the iPad. I had a terrible day yesterday. Not going to get into specifics, but trust ...

Reader Interview!

A couple of weeks ago, I (Suzanne) shared a post at Heroes & Heartbreakers on  romance novels for comic readers. Turns out, one of Love in Panels' readers is also a reader of H&H AND works at a comic book shop! I'm always eager to find more people who enjoy romance, comics, and romance comics, and to learn how their reading preferences developed and how they continue to evolve. I reached out, and  Liz graciously agreed to answer some questions for me/you. Fair warning - recommendations ahead!
