September 3 - Hot Hex Boyfriend, by Carly Bloom
Another solid fluffy witchy contemporary rom-com to add to the burgeoning subgenre. I didn't love it like Bloom's cowboy series, but I believe I'm in the minority here. Bloom's characters are still great, I just wasn't getting the tension I expect from her writing. After waiting so long for another book from this author, I suspect my expectations were too high and I know I'm tired of these books after reading so many recently.
September 24 - The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year, by Ally Carter
This is a great balance of locked-room mystery and romance. Imagine if Knives Out featured a pair of mystery writers (instead of Benoit Blanc) who fall in love at Christmas. Eclectic group of kind of terrible family & friends who all have reason to want a famous writer dead and the two younger writers she's invited to her house... to solve her murder/disappearance. If you've read Ally Carter before, this will give you the same glow as her YA books, but it's definitely for adults. Not a spicy book, but the romantic tension is great!
